About

I'm a mediocre procrastinating disillusioned perfectionist with delusions of grandeur. I like ukulele, food, photography and social media marketing. My favourite colour is yellow.

My song from FAWM 2011, co-written with Shannon DeCourcey, made famous and infinitely more awesome with the addition and musical stylings of Craig Chee

*swoon*

10 plays Download

First song for FAWM 2013 is done. This is the first and only full take, because flatmate is rather noisy this evening and I couldn’t be bothered trying to do a proper mix.

I sat down on Saturday night, fiddled around with my uke and my guitar and got two melodies, neither of which is this. Melody came about while I was tuning up my uke, I liked the bass run-down and just kept going with it…

Yes, it’s on my uke. No, it’s not a normal tuning, it’s a low-G tuning, so effectively the top 4 strings of a guitar up 5 frets. Literally.

====================

Lyrics:

I hide in plain sight
My mind in full flight
They’ll find what they like
But what the hell do they know

I’ve seen their eyes peek
Subtle and searching
Judging and piercing
What the hell do they know

Oo-ooh I steel myself
Oo-ooh for parallel
Oo-ooh of whirlwind thought
My dreadnought

Their fire is wasted
Rumour embraces
I’m bound to face it
What the hell do I know

My craving demands it
But duty is maddening
It’s not what I fancied
But what the hell do I know

Oo-ooh I steel myself
Oo-ooh for parallel
Oo-ooh of whirlwind thought
My dreadnought

10th Oct 2012 (5:35 pm) - Reblogged from Immutable/Inscrutable

FAWM is done for 2012.

That’s right. FAWM is over for 2012, according to the official countdown on the homepage.

For other FAWMers out there, I hope you reached your goal, whether that was 14.5 or something else. Above all, I hope you enjoyed yourself.

Me? I got to 17 songs in the end. Thanks to a few collabs, an evening of improvfeasting with Jane and some last minute demo-recording as the clock ticked down the hours to minutes to seconds…

I’m pretty happy with a number of songs that came out. I would have liked more time to contribute to the community on the forums, and share more here, and write more songs by myself. But, life happens and it’s almost never how you expect or think you want.

If you’re interested in the full list of songs, you can visit my FAWM profile or individual songs below:

  1. Midnight Mass for Mistress Madness (with dragondreams) (with duaneclancy)
  2. Lose Myself
  3. Orchid
  4. Midnight Rain
  5. I’m Just A Zong (with duaneclancy)
  6. Crappy Sweethearts Day (with nightengale
  7. Indecision
  8. This Could’ve Been A Love Song (with mctown)
  9. I’ll Find The Way
  10. A Scene
  11. Fastest With the Mostest (with cts)
  12. At The Mountain (improv) (with janeukey)
  13. Hold Me Near (with janeukey)
  14. My Home Tonight (with janeukey)
  15. Delicate Mirror (with janeukey)
  16. Still
  17. Whisper Me Wicked (with blindkiwi)

Coffee Anthem

Two of my favourite FAWMers have collaborated to create the best coffee anthem I’ve ever heard*.

You need to listen to it. Now. And then tomorrow morning as you prepare or drink of your caffeinated drink of choice.

It’s irrelevant that this may be the first coffee anthem I know of, irrelevant I tell you :p

Half-FAWM update

Today is about the halfway point of FAWM. If the aim is 14.5 songs in 29 days, I think I’m on track with my 6 songs posted and another couple in the works. They are:

Lose Myself
Orchid
Midnight Rain
Crappy Sweethearts Day*
Indecision
This Could’ve Been A Love Song*

Other songs I have yet to post but are in the works
I’m Just A Zong*
Midnight Mass for Mistress Madness*
a pop-y song with a stalker theme

That includes 4 collaborations and a bunch of half ideas I need to sit down and finish. I’m determined to win. I will make 14.5 songs (probably easier to just round up to 15). I’m pleased that some of the quicker demos have turned out passable, e.g. Crappy Sweethearts Day was done last night within the hour - we re headed out to dinner and for some perverse reason I wanted the demo up for Valentines Day ;)

Now, if I can repeat that for all the others, ill be fine! Just need the time…

Orchid

Song #2 for FAWM 2012 written in about 2 hours this afternoon.

Inspired by a song I heard over the weekend a guy wrote from the perspective of his daughters and the fact my Koro (Maori for grandad) used to grow orchids in his front room. This is me imagining what my dad (or any dad) might sing about his daughter(s)…

Listen/comment on FAWM or Soundcloud

Lyrics:

Here in the sun sits my orchid
Her beauty there for all to see
Her every moment in my memory
crowned in glory

Here in the sun sits my orchid
Her charming strength will build
Her splendour feeds her will
For now, time holds still

Days will go by
In our garden of life
Stones will appear in the night
When dark descends, her path will bend
alongside mine

Here in the sun sits my orchid
Serene and and calm somehow
Soon she’ll wake and figure out
That I’m not necessary now

Here alone sits my orchid

Lose Myself

First song of FAWM 2012 is finally online. If you’re a FAWMer, you can listen and/or comment there. If you’re on Soundcloud, you can listen and/or comment there. Or you could comment here too.

Lyrics:

All alone
The music comes
I lose myself in you
Tightly now
It’s safe somehow to
lose myself in you

And I know
The real world’s coming soon
And I lose myself, yes I lose myself

My head is clear
There’s no noise here and
I feel myself again
I’m loose and free
No pulls at me,
I can feel myself again

But I know
The real world’s coming soon
For now I feel myself, yes I feel myself

[Instrumental break]

Rain or sun
It matters none
The world is alright now
All alone
When the music comes
The world is alright now

But I know
The real world’s coming soon
And my world’s alright, yes my world’s alright
